EEE Students Visit Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission in Savar
A group of 48 students and 2 faculty members from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) visited Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission in Savar, Dhaka on 07 April 2016 as a part of their field experience programme. IEEE IUB Student Branch arranged this industrial tour. In the day-long industrial tour, students were accompanied by the Head of the EEE Department, Dr. M. Abdur Razzak and Dr. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury, Branch Counselor of IEEE IUB Student Branch. During the visit of the Atomic Energy Commission, students were first visited the General Electronics Lab. After that the students visited the VLSI lab, which is the only VLSI lab in the country, where students were briefed the step-by-step process of making a microchip or IC using different wafers. The briefing session was interactive with live demonstration of various works. The session concluded with information about research opportunities in the VLSI lab of the commission. Next the students visited the solar energy lab of the commission, where the students got briefing how a solar panel is made from the starting, including some live demonstration of the components. Finally, students were visited Bangladesh’s only 3MW nuclear reactor, which was the main attraction of the visit. An elaborate session took place which included theoretical knowledge about nuclear reactor and then practical demonstration of the control room, reactor itself and the structure. On the whole, the day-long industrial tour was an excellent opportunity for the students of EEE & ETE majors to learn about the practical applications of their classroom-based knowledge.
