17th Convocation of IUB held (with video)

The 17th Convocation of the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) was held on Thursday, 24 March 2016 on IUB campus at Bashundhara, Dhaka. As delegated by the Hon’ble Chancellor, Mr Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Education conferred the degrees upon the graduating students. Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Bir Bikram, Adviser to the Hon’ble Prime Minister for Energy, Power and Mineral Resources was the Convocation Speaker. Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh attended the Convocation as the Special Guest.
Among others, Mr Rashed Chowdhury, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, IUB, Mr A Matin Chowdhury, the Chairman of the IUB founding Trust and Vice Chancellor Prof. M Omar Rahman also spoke on the occasion.
Prof Milan Pagon, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Designate), IUB, delivered the formal vote of thanks.
A total of 1388 graduating students from various programmes of the university attended the convocation, 954 of whom are undergraduates and 434 graduates. Mr. Mahtab Fahim, a student of the School of Business awarded the honour of ‘Valedictorian’ this year. He also received the ‘Chancellor’s Gold Medal’.
Four students received Award for excellence for their outstanding performance in various fields. Mr. Mahtab Fahim for academic excellence, Ms. Saquiba Bintay Ali for culture, Mr. Salman Ahmed for community service and Mr. Hisham Rahman have been nominated for sports. Ms. Saquiba Bintay Ali received an award for becoming an ‘All rounder’. Moreover, 105 IUBians received special accolades for their academic achievements. Ms. Yamila Yousuf awarded special recognition for attaining highest CGPA 4.00 in her Master of Business Administration Degree.
There was a musical evening followed by dinner, which was participated by the Trustees, graduates and their parents, members of the faculty and management.
