EEE Students visit Summit Mehnaghat Power Plant
A group of 48 students and 2 faculty members from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) visited Summit Meghnaghat 335MW Combined Cycle Power Plant on 26 July 2018 as a part of their field experience programme for their two theory courses: EEE403 – Power Plant Engineering and EEE402 – Power Transmission & Distribution. The day-long industrial tour was jointly organized by the IEEE IUB Student Branch and IEEE IUB Industry Application Society in cooperation with the EEE department. The visitors were welcomed by the Plant Manager, Mr. Ki Bok Hong. In this industrial tour to the largest power plant of Summit Group, students were accompanied by Dr. M. Abdur Razzak, Assoc. Professor of EEE department and the Mentor of IEEE IUB Student Branch, and Ms. Navila Rahman, Lecturer of EEE department. During the visit, students were briefed of the various sections of the power plant, by the power station engineers, which include the generators room, boiler section, cooling section, power organizers and the temperature management room. Students were also visited the transmission control room, load management and monitoring room, generating substations and distribution switch terminals. Apart from the demonstration, a safety instruction session followed by a technical lecture session was also organized for the students on the overall working procedure of this important power plant. Finally, a question and answer session provided good insight into the operations, protocols and machines of this important key point installation of the country. It was a significant opportunity for the students of EEE major to gain practical experiences of visiting the largest power plants of Summit Group in Bangladesh and acquire knowledge about the practical applications of their classroom-based study.
