International symposium on environment conservation held at IUB
The School of Environmental Science and Management (SESM) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a 2-day long International Symposium on Environment Conservation held from June 27-28, 2018 at IUB campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. The theme of the Symposium has been ‘Avoid plastic, stop pollution and conserve nature’.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) attended the inaugural ceremony of the symposium as the Chief Guest. Mr. Shahriar Casesar Rahman, SESM alumnus and CEO, Creative Conservation Alliance was the Special Guest of the program. Prof. M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB, Chaired the session. Prof. Milan Pagon, Pro-Vice Chancellor, IUB was present in the program and spoke in the ceremony. Dr. Md. Abdul Khaleque, Dean, School of Environmental Science and Management of IUB delivered his welcome speech while Dr. Ayaz Rabbani gave formal vote of thanks.
Dr. John Herbohn, Professor and Director, Tropical Forests and People Research Center, University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia, made an online keynote presentation on ‘The future and need of reforestation programs in tropical developing countries’. Later, the Chief Guest and other guests visited a poster exhibition done by the students on various environmental themes.
There had been five plenary sessions during two days of the symposium where Prof. Mushfiqur Saliheen from BUET, Dr. Azharul Mazumdar from USAID and Mr. Raquibul Amin, Country Representative, IUCN remained present and took part in analytical discussions.
