IUB-ActionAid jointly honor women sports personalities
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and ActionAid jointly organized an event to acknowledge the achievements of female sports personalities of Bangladesh on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at IUB Auditorium in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
Shirin Akter- fastest woman of the country; Ashrin Mridha- women’s basketball team captain; Rumana Ahmed- women’s cricket team captain; Maria Manda- captain of women’s under-15 football team; Wasfia Nazreen- famed mountain climber; Samaun Anjum Auroni- first female professional golfer of the country; Tasmina Akter- 12-year old horse jockey; Shahnaz Parvin Maleka- women’s kabaddi team captain; Zakia Sultana Tumpa- national gold medalist shooter; Sonia Akter- national gold medalist swimmer; Mabia Akter Simanta-SAAF gold medalist weightlifter – all these eleven women were introduced as small descriptions of their struggles and achievements were highlighted. Thereafter, they had been honored with flower bouquets and certificates by the dignitaries.
Alongside, Faria Afsana, Farjana Pommy, Umme Jannatul Nahar, Sharmin Akter and Joya Chakma were also awarded for making outstanding contributions in the field of sports and sports journalism.
Mr. Arif Khan Joy M.P, Deputy Minister for Youth & Sports, Keya Rahman, M.P. and Member, Parliamentary Standing Committee for Youth & Sports, Mr. Rashed Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB, Prof. M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB, Dr. Mahbub Alam, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, IUB, Mr. Afzal Hossain, popular actor, Ms. Khushi Kabir, women’s rights activists, Mr. Mostafa Mamun, sports journalist were present and spoke on the occasion.
The event was hosted by Ms. Farah Kabir, Country Director, ActionAid Bangladesh.
