IEEE IUB Industry Application Society Student Chapter, along with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), organized an industrial tour on March 01, 2018 to the Shyampur 133/33 Grid Substation under the Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC).
A group of 55 students went to this study tour that was the part of two different courses: EEE 402 (Power Transmission and Distribution) and EEE 417 (Switchgear and Protection). During the tour, students were accompanied by two faculty members, Shovasis Kumar Biswas and Navila Rahman Nadi, Lecturers of EEE Department. At the outset, Dr. Abdur Razzak, Head, EEE, IUB briefed the participating students about the objective of the tour and guided them on how to bring out the best of the trip.
This study tour to the substation was planned to equip the students gaining knowledge and gathering practical experience as to how a substation operates that eventually helped them to relate these learning with the theory studied in classrooms.
