IUB’s folk music expedition in Rangpur

The project of online digital archive of Bengali folk music at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), funded by Shaheed Khalek and Major Salek Bir Uttam Trust, has undertaken another expedition of folk music in different remote places of Rangpur division. This time the archive team consists of IUB faculty members and student volunteers covered a large portion of Rangpur division that includes Nilphamari, Dinajpur and Kurigram. A number of songs of Bhawaiya genre sung by the renowned local artists, along with some interviews of folk singers, were collected from Sindurmati Bazar and some other places.
The team is now sorting the songs according to the variety of folk genre and pertinent information will be incorporated in websites accordingly. The preliminary version of the web can be accessed through: http://folkarch.iub.edu.bd/. A few of journals based on these field trips will be uploaded on the web soon. The descriptions of genre of folk music along with Meta information are now available on the web.
