2nd Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2018 held at IUB
The Department of Law at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), in collaboration with the Asian Society of International Law and International Law Students Association organized the 2nd Bangladesh National Round of the Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2018 from February 8 - 10, 2018 at IUB campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. The closing ceremony of this International Law Moot Court Competition was held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at IUB.
The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the oldest and largest international moot competition in the world, attracting participants from almost 700 law schools in more than 90 countries in recent years. The competition has been described as the most prestigious moot court competition in the world by a large number of organizations and universities internationally, and is one of the grand slam or major moots.
25 universities, both public and private, took part in this year’s competition. The final competition took place in the afternoon where Eastern University became the winner defeating BRAC University. Both universities will now take part in World Moot Court Championship to be held in Washington DC in April 2018.
Prof. M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB, attended the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest and distributed prizes among the winners. Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, and Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, Hon’ble Judges, High Court Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh and Ms. Amy Ray, Assistant United States Attorney and the Appellate Chief in the Western District of North Carolina were in the judge panel during the final competition and also remained present in the closing ceremony as Special Guests. Prof. Borhan Uddin Khan, Adviser, Department of Law, IUB and the President of the Asian Society of International Law, Bangladesh Chaired the Session.
Prof. Milan Pagon, Pro Vice Chancellor, IUB; Dr. Mahbub Alam, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, IUB and Prof. Nazmuzzaman Bhuian, Vice President, Bangladesh Chapter of the Asian Society of International Law were also present and spoke on the occasion.
Judges, eminent lawyers, international delegates, faculty members, dignitaries of the society and a full-house students were present during the Closing Ceremony of the International Law Moot Court Competition.
